Provincial Reconnaissance Unit (PRU)
Program in South Vietnam formed an investigative and paramilitary attack upon the covert communist apparatus in South Vietnam. PRU teams, totalling approximately 4,200 men, operated in 44 provinces of South Vietnam. PRU were based in their home areas and operated in teams of 15–20 men. They were advised and supported by 101 U.S. military advisors and seven CIA personnel. CIA funded the PRU and retained overall administrative control of the project for the U.S. Government.
